Most probably one of the oldest and most consistent truck drag racing teams, this page takes you step by step through the growth and development of Maksar Racing Team and how it came to be most probably the fastest truck drag racing team in the world.
In 1998, three brothers, Paul, Thomas, and Martin Agius, all interested in an event which at the time was made up of about 30 competing trucks, decided to join the club and build a drag racing truck. With the help of local friends, works began on a Volvo 12ltr TD120 engine, to be fitted on a Ford Cargo Chassis. Two and half months of hard work got the truck ready for its first test. Everything seemed to be working fine, the team being quite happy with the engine’s performance, however had to miss out on the first event due to some transmission problems. Transmission modified, with a new blue and white paint job, got the truck ready for the next practice session, and officially timed for the first time ever. Remarkably, the truck didn’t fail to impress on its debut, setting a 14.5 seconds run, making it already the 3rd fastest truck on the island. The official event followed the next day, and we climbed up to the finals, finishing in second place. From that day on, Maksar Racing Team got some courage, competition increased, and thanks to that, every motivated team got faster and faster
